MF DOG ADOPTION INFORMATION

WHO RESCUED WHO?

MFDR strives to find every single one of our dogs their perfect and forever home. Due to the nature of our rescue (foster-home based), we require an approved adoption application prior to meeting our dogs and their foster families. We require an adoption application, approval process, home visit, and adoption fee.

AVAILABLE DOGS

All of our dogs have received a physical exam, monthly flea/tick/heartworm prevention, and all vaccines and other routine care (heartworm testing/spay/neuter) that ages allow for. **If our dogs/puppies are adopted prior to completing medical care (due to age or limited time in our rescue), the adopter agrees to complete these with their veterinarian at their own expense.** The only exception is sterilization; we arrange to have all of our dogs/puppies spay/neutered through MFDR once old enough (unless the adopter arranges to have this done on their own).

Our adoption fee is generally $300 for adults and $350 for puppies (under 1yr)

Adoption Information: About Us

HOW TO ADOPT FROM MFDR:

Contact our Adoption Team to request an adoption application and wait patiently for a reply.

Once applications are approved, we set up meet-and-greets with the foster dog and all potential adopters. We then schedule the adoption with the best compatible home (or hold out until we find the right one).

Finally, once an official adoption day is set up, the dog is brought to the potential adopter's home and a home check is performed at this time. If this goes well, a final decision is made to complete the adoption. The adoption contract is reviewed and signed, medical paperwork is reviewed, the adoption fee is gathered, and we leave you with your new forever family member. You will be expected to have some supplies ready-collar/leash/bowls/etc., at least temporary ones. We will often provide you with about a weeks worth of food so that the dog can transition slowly to their potentially new diet.

We generally have a 14-day trial period after finalizing an adoption to allow adopters to be absolutely sure the dog is right for them and that they're committed for life. We're also often able to allow foster-to-adopt situations to allow families to get to know their dog even more prior to committing to adoption!

Although we expect that all of our adoptive homes have made lifelong commitments to their adopted dogs, we know we must prepare for the unexpected. If for any reason our adopters are unable to keep their dog, we require notification ASAP. We maintain the right to reclaim any of our dogs, must approve any re-homing arrangements; and will always resume ownership of any of our dogs if needed or warranted for their entire lives.

The adoption fee is generally $300 for adult dogs, $350 for puppies.

OUR ADOPTERS ARE EXPECTED TO BE INTERESTED IN A LIFE-LONG, FAMILY, IN-HOME PET.

We trust that they have planned for potential future medical care by either a medical fund, credit card, or pet insurance (please know pet insurance does NOT COVER PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS that many of our medical rescues have).

OUT-OF-STATE

ADOPTION POLICY

We require all potential adopters to visit the dog/pup they’re interested in prior to moving forward with an adoption (that means coming to us in Radford/Blacksburg, VA). As long as our potential adopters are willing to travel, we’re willing to consider an out-of-state adoption with the right family!

WE EXPECT OUR ADOPTERS TO HAVE MAINTAINED ALL RECOMMENDED MEDICAL CARE

for their existing pets, past owned pets, as well as continuing those for their adopted pet. We trust that our adopters have a plan for routine exercise, routine medical care, pet sitting/care while away for vacation/school/work/etc, and other necessary responsibilities of pet ownership. We expect our adopters to provide us with occasional updates of their adopted dogs, so that we can continue to celebrate how happy their lives are once they're home!
